PREsent vs preSENT
Noun/verb stress in two-syllable words
A ready-to-teach B1+/B2 pronunciation lesson on two-syllable noun/verb pairs: same spelling, different stress, different meaning.
Students say pairs like PREsent and preSENT aloud and notice the difference, then learn the rule: nouns stress the first syllable, verbs the second. A phrase bank of common pairs (record, object, contract, produce, permit, export, increase and more) supports three exercises: identify noun or verb as you hear the sentence, choose the correct stress, and sort the words. An A/B minimal pair drill, a Guess My Word game and a discussion give plenty of controlled and freer speaking.
