Is Tourism Killing Venice?
Listening for attitude and tone
A ready-to-teach B1+ listening lesson on attitude and tone, built around a free 3-minute BBC News report on mass tourism in Venice.
The report is told mostly through short interviews, so students listen to how people feel rather than every word. They predict, match key words, then watch once to match five speakers to an attitude, and again for words, voice and tone with timings. They notice intensifiers and softeners (so, such, totally, super, kind of) in short quotes, race in teams to make sentences stronger or softer, and discuss tourism where they live. Background notes bring the 2018 figures up to date.
