Rising Intonation
Questions, checking and reacting
A ready-to-teach B1+/B2 pronunciation lesson on rising intonation: how the voice goes up for questions, checking and reacting.
Students say Really three ways and notice how the meaning changes, then learn the core rule and see rising intonation in four everyday situations, including question tags that ask a real question or simply check. A phrase bank with pitch arrows supports three exercises: mark the arrows, say each line both ways to a partner, and choose the right reaction. In the speaking task, students share a piece of surprising news and their partner reacts with natural rising questions.
