In Your Own Words
Paraphrasing & Summarising
A ready-to-teach B1+ Academic English lesson on paraphrasing and summarising, built around real research on how students use AI.
Students tell quotes, paraphrases, summaries and plagiarism apart, then compare a source with a paraphrase and a summary. They learn five paraphrasing tools (synonyms, word class, structure, linkers and reporting, numbers) and three summary steps, and how to avoid patchwriting. Then they race in teams, paraphrase in an information gap and write a short summary with a citation.
